Service / Crowns
When is a crown the better answer?
A crown is a cap that goes over a tooth that cannot hold a filling on its own. Cracked, root-canalled, or filled-too-many-times teeth need crowns. We do most crowns in two visits: shape and impression today, fit and bond two weeks later. We do not have a same-day milling machine, on purpose.

Scope · in writing
What this service is, and what it is not.
What we do
- Porcelain or zirconia crowns made by a local Toronto lab.
- Digital impressions on most teeth, traditional impressions on tricky ones.
- A temporary crown that lasts two weeks without trouble.
- Bite-check on the fit visit and a follow-up at two months.
What we do NOT do
- Same-day milled crowns. The fit is rougher and the lab work is better.
- Push crowns on teeth that could hold a large filling.
- Use the cheapest lab to pad the margin.
Question 01
Why two visits and not same-day?
A lab-made crown fits better than a milled one. We tried both. The seam where the crown meets the tooth is where decay starts again; a tighter seam means a longer life. Two weeks of a temporary crown is a small price for ten extra years of crown life.
Question 02
Will my insurance pay for it?
Most plans cover crowns at fifty percent after the deductible. Some plans require pre-authorisation; Karen sends those off before we start the work. The price on the menu is the full fee; your portion depends on the plan.
Question 03
What if my tooth hurts after the crown is on?
Mild soreness on the bite for a few days is normal. Sharp pain when biting means the bite is high; come back and we will adjust it in five minutes. Lingering cold sensitivity beyond three weeks could mean the tooth needs a root canal underneath; we will tell you straight if we see it.
Question 04
How long does a crown last?
Most crowns last fifteen to twenty years. The crown itself almost never breaks; what fails is the seal at the gumline, which is why we check that margin every recall. Floss like the crown is your real tooth, because it sort of is.
